Invitation to pray for the consecration of England
Invitation to pray for the consecration of England & Wales to the Sorrowful & Immaculate Heart of Mary
On Saturday 11th November 2006 Armistice Day, the day which commemorates the ending of the First World War, one year and one month after Our Lady had promised it at Fatima, on 13th October 1917 America was consecrated to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary by the U.S. bishops, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
The papal nuncio, Archbishop Pietro Sambi, concelebrated the Mass of consecration with a delegation of American bishops. Those who were unable to attend because of prior commitments, sent in copies of the prayer of consecration with their signatures, which were placed on a side altar during the Mass.
I sent this article to a priest friend, who is well regarded by the Bishops of England and Wales, with the comment that it would be consoling if we could persuade them to undertake such a consecration for the good of our country. He agreed, and said he would see what could be done.
In these situations, everything depends on obtaining a favourable response through prayer and penance. I am enlisting the support in prayer for this intention of priests and enclosed nuns, and likewise appeal to you: please pray fervently and offer your penances to Our Lady at this critical time for the Church, to invoke her all-powerful intercession to obtain a renewed consecration of our country.
For it is indeed true, as the US consecration indicates, that England has already been consecrated to the Heart of Mary during the First World War. It came about in response to a request from Our Lord through the Belgian mystic, Berthe Petit. which was brought to the attention of Cardinal Bourne, the Archbishop of Westminster. In due course he ordained that a solemn consecration of the country was to be made to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, and this was carried out in every parish on Christmas Day, 25th December 1917.
I further invite you to register your prayers for the above intention, by email at the address below. While there is no obligation to do this, it would assist our work in seeking to bring about this consecration, to know how many people are making a commitment to pray. Plus, if you register I will keep you updated as this prayer campaign develops.
Please copy this Invitation to Pray for the Consecration of England and Wales, and send it to your friends. It would be ideal if you could say a prayer for this intention every day, and if possible, recite one decade of the Rosary, because this prayer is so pleasing to God and Our Lady and has such power to bring down God’s grace into hearts.
May Our Lady’s Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart be our refuge and the way to lead us to God. Ave Maria !
